Don Amburgey of the Cumberland Mountain Arts & Crafts Committee coordinated with HOMES, Inc, a non-profit organization that builds local low income housing, to kick off the initial construction of The Little Shepherd Amphitheatre in Jenkins.

Two groups from HOMES donated labor, money and material for the project.  The groups consisted of students from Purdue University’s St. Aquinas Center and Kutztown University.  The groups hale from West Lafayette, Indiana and Kutztown, Pennsylvania respectively.

These students put rough cut hemlock siding on the new amphitheater office, installed windows and doors, and landscaped around the outside of the office building.  The rough-cut hemlock siding was milled locally and will resemble housing that was in this area during the Civil War Era.

Mayor Dixon of Jenkins donated a backhoe and one of his best operators, Scotty for one afternoon to complete the landscaping task.  Students were supervised in construction and told stories of our local history.
